The Historical Atlas of York County Ontario was illustrated by Miles & Co. in 1878. It is a beautifully composed collection of town maps, portraits of locals and business directory for the time. These atlases were pre-sold by subscription only and typically purchased by affluent families or individuals. These 15"x19" maps come in coloured or sepia-toned and are available for Toronto, Yorkville, Scarboro, and Etobicoke.

The Ward finally tells the diverse stories of this extraordinary and resilient neighbourhood through archival photos and contributions from a wide array of voices, including historians, politicians, architects, storytellers, journalists and descendants of Ward residents. Their perspectives on playgrounds, tuberculosis, sex workers, newsies and even bathing bring The Ward to life and, in the process, raise important questions about how contemporary cities handle immigration, poverty and the geography of difference.

Historical Atlas of Toronto
$34.95, In-Store

In just two centuries, Toronto has grown from a far-flung outpost of the British Empire to a world-class city, the largest in Canada. This book is the first to illustrate Toronto’s history through contemporary maps, drawn at the time to record, promote or illustrate major events. Collected together for the first time, these beautiful, revelatory documents add up to a fascinating visual history of the city’s development. The book covers all of today’s Greater Toronto Area, from Mississauga in the west to Oshawa in the east.

We're getting into the holiday spirit this year with the launch of our WRAPPING PAPER. The 22"x34" sheet collects multiple maps/plates from the 1890 Goad's "Atlas of the City of Toronto". 3 sheets per pack.

Anniversary Week Sale!

This week we celebrate the first anniversary of our very own retail shop! We've had a great year and met a lot of new people, tourists and Torontonians alike. We've welcomed athletes from all over our Americas during the Pan Am games, cheered with customers with every run the Jays scored during the playoffs, and had many (too many!) political debates during the Federal election.

We're heading in to our second holiday season now and we're very excited. We've been hard at work building new store fixtures and are happy to say that we have the biggest selection of products we've ever had in the store. There's been no shortage of great designers in Toronto making awesome products about our city, we're finding new ones all the time. It's been an honor to work with so many people who love Toronto.

To celebrate such a great year, we're giving everyone who comes in to the store 10% off their purchase all week until Sat Nov 21. On top of that, we have a massive $15 t-shirt sale, including our classic streetcar design, "What Would Jane Jacobs Do?", and some past season items from the ever-popular Peace Collective.

NEW: FlipCrown - The bike storage solution

We're excited to announce an ingenious new product in store and online. The FlipCrown comes to us from Gent, Belgium and after a successful Indiegogo campaign, we're the first retailer in North America to stock it.

If you keep your bike inside, whether at home or work, you've probably bumped into the handlebars far more often than you'd like. FlipCrown is a stylish and affordable bike accessory that allows you to flip the handlebars 90°, making it much slimmer to store in your house, office, or in a packed bike rack. FlipCrown replaces the crown nut on threaded headsets and operates with the push of a button. Paired with removable pedals, you'll be able to store your bike in the tightest hallways without annoying your roommates.

FlipCrown is easy to install and comes with all the required tools (older bikes with corroded or rusty parts may need a stronger wrench). FlipCrown is compatible with most threaded headsets (see graphic below if you're not sure your style of headset).

NEW!: Montreal Metro buttons/magnets

You may have seen some of these around in the past, but Spacing is proud to announce that our Montreal Metro line of buttons and magnets is finally complete!

We have replicated the tile patterns and public art installations of Montreal's Metro stations in one-inch buttons and magnets. There are 68 different buttons and magnets that can be purchased individually, per line (Orange, Blue, or Green + Yellow), or as a complete set.

For the lucky people who got our first two sets of Metro buttons/magnets during the first release, we have a special package that will complete your set without having to buy duplicates of some stations.
